Bakhar

"Bakhar" a book scripted by Dr B R Andhare , holds the brilliant history of the 125 glorious years of the institution " Morris College". The short profiles of almost 130 gems produced by this college has been consolidated in this book.

Morris College was established in 1885, named after commissioner Sir John Morris ( 1886-1883).

It was first set up in the premises of "Barasati Palace" of the Bhosalas, later in 1894 it shifted to "Bakabai Palace"( today's Dhanwate Nagar Vidhalaya) and finally holds its place of honour since 1911 at the Nagpur Residency. The scholarly students& the staff of this college supported the national movement and thus the college was taken over by the British Government on 1st July 1915.

Education in the three fields of – Arts, Science & Law was imparted to the students enrolled in this college. The college boasts of imparting knowledge to worthy students who have earned names in the fields of Social, Political, Cultural , Sports & Literature.

Some of the students who made the Institution proud and carved a niche for themselves are President of India – Mr Hiddiayatulla, Chief Justice – Dr Bhavini Shankar Niyogi, Bapuji Aney, Gandhian – Dada Dharmadhikari, M J Kanetkar, Narkesari Abhyankar, Labour leader – Rambhau Ruikar, Freedom fighter & writer – Anant Gopal Shewade, Chief Ministers – Vasantrao Naik, Sudhakarrao Naik, Central Ministers Vasant Sathe, President of Hindu Mahasabha – V G Deshpande, RSS Chief – Balasaheb Deoras, Social reformer Baba Amte, National Badminton Player Chamdrakant Deoras.

Few of names spelt with respect and renowned in the field of Literature are BhaujiDaftari, SN Banhatti, Dr V B Kolte, Dr A N Deshpande, SharadchandraMuktibodh, Dr S M Varnekar, Dr Mahesh Elkunchwar, Poet Grace.

Armed with the managerial skills K B L Seth, R K Patil, Mr Suradkar they shone as efficient IAS officers.

Imparting knowledge and continuing the flow some of them shone as Institutional heads like M MTamhan, Dr Sengupta, Dr V VMirashi, Dr V B Kolte , Dr M G Deshmukh, Dr Ashtikar to name a few.
