‘Dr Andhare’s book will prove important for informing people about RTMNU

DR .B R Andhare has laid a milestone in penning down history of Nagpur University, which boasts of its glorious past. His book ‘Nagpur Vidyapeethachi Aitihasik Watchal’ will prove important for informing people about the University and also for researchers to follow it. This was stated by former Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Marharaj Nagpur University Dr. Vilas Sapkal.

Dr. Sapkal was speaking after releasing the book, here on Saturday. Another former V-C of Nagpur University Dr. Arun Satputale was in the chair. Present Pro-VC Dr. Vinayak Deshpande, noted scientist Dr. Chintaman Mande, co-author of the book Dr. Shrikant Sontakke, Dr. Dipti Andhare were seated on the dais with the main author Dr. Andhare.

The book can also be a reference book for those appearing for civil services examinations. Dr. Sapkal said. Nagpur University has produced great personalities who rose the position of Vice-president, Prime Minister, Supreme Court judges and various other fields. It had institutions of highest repute in entire Asia like LIT and Government Medical College. However, the history was not written during the last over 90 year. He requestsed Dr. Andhare to make the book available on internet so that readers in the entire world would know the history of Nagpur University.

Informing about the documentary on history of the university, prepared as a part of celebrations of 100th convocation. Dr Sapkal said that there is need for promoting research at international level in all the streams.

In his presidential address Dr Satputale said that it was unfortunate that history of Nagpur University, which was fourth in the entire country, when established in 1923, was not written earlier. This lacuna has been removed by Dr. Andhare. The book is not only recording of history, but important events, decisions, policies have been placed in a very lucid language.

Dr. Deshpande reviewed the book and stated that several personalities and events, whch were not known even to those holding higher positions in the university, were informed through this book.

Dr.Andhare’s suggestsions of protecting revolutionist and agriculture scientist P S Khankhoje’s residence; putting board of Sir Bipin Krishna Bose’s name on building hosting Pro-VC’s office. Proper care of TJ Kedar’s bust in the university administrative building premises, economist Dr Raghuvanshi’s residence, will be considered and steps to protect them will be done by the University.

Dr. Andhare in his introductory remarks stated that the book has rare photographs of those who have worked here and important visitors, will of Raobahadur D Laxminarayan and information which is not known to many.

Dr. Sapkal, Dr. Satputale, Dr. Deshpand and Dr. Mande were felicitated on the occasion. Dr Sapkal released the book.

Dr. Dipti Andhare conducted the proceedings. Dr. Digambar Kapse proposed a vote of thanks. The programme concluded with Pasaydan by Prafullata Pusadkar.
